Fans lament the fact that some of their anime and manga never got a sequel, as the creators behind these masterpieces passed away too soon, without the chance to complete them.

So in this sad list we will bring manga authors who passed away before finishing their work:

6. Daisuke Satou – Highschool of the Dead

High School of the Dead writer Daisuke Satou passed away in 2017 due to heart disease. Illustrator Shoji Sato mentioned that he often received comments from unfamiliar overseas fans urging him to continue the series, saying, " While it also hurts my heart that the series has gone on hiatus, just thinking about Daisuke Satou makes me sad... to think that I can't carelessly get involved with High School of the Dead ."

5. Noburo Yamaguchi – Zero no Tsukaima

With only 20 of its 22 volumes completed, Zero no Tsukaima ( The Familiar of Zero ) is one of the author's final works. Noburo Yamaguchi had advanced cancer. The author gained widespread popularity when he began light novels such as Kakikake no Love Letter and Zero no Tsukaima ( The Familiar of Zero ). Yamaguchi, however, went on hiatus due to a series of surgeries to prevent the cancer from growing. Before Yamaguchi's death in 2013, he was able to share with his publishers the plot, including the end of his life's work, Zero no Tsukaima.

4. Umanosuke Iida – Towa no Quon

Firstly Iida is a Japanese director, anime creator and screenwriter who played a major role in some of the anime series such as Cowboy Bebop , Kaze no Tani no Nausicaä ( Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind ), Lupin III Part III , and Towa no Quon , an unfinished project. Towa no Quon is an anime series with six films that portrays the story of Quon, a leader of humans with different abilities who tries to ward off a secret organization.

3. Tomohiro Matsu – Hatena Illusion

He is known for his light novel series such as Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai! ( Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father! ) and Mayoi Neko Overrun! . These two novels, with 18 and 12 volumes respectively, have had their own anime adaptations. His last series, Hatena Illusion , was left unfinished after his death in 2016 due to liver cancer. Despite the sparse amount of content, the four-novel series gained an anime adaptation in 2020.

2. Kentarou Miura – Berserk

Guts's long-running revenge plot began in 1989 and has remained steady ever since, though chapters have dwindled as Miura aged and prioritized his health over work. Sadly, after 364 chapters, Miura passed away in 2021. Although the rivalry between Guts and Griffith was never resolved, Berserk will forever remain one of the most influential stories ever written.

Akira began his creative journey in 1978 with the story "Wonder Island," which came to life in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump. Recognized as one of the pillars of the "Golden Age of Jump," Dragon Ball became a global phenomenon, leading Toriyama to dedicate himself intensely to the series from 1984 to 1995. During those eleven years, he produced 42 volumes, totaling nearly 10,000 pages of thrilling adventures. Many of his stories have been completed.
