adaptation live-action of Streets of Rage has added new names to its main team. According to Variety ,Lionsgate has hired Jeymes Samuel, director of The Harder They Fall, to helm the project based on the classic Sega.

The team reunites the same duo from Sonic

The script will be written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller, the duo responsible for the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog. Meanwhile, Derek Kolstad, creator of the John Wick franchise, is no longer part of the production.

However, among the producers are Toru Nakahara, Dmitri M. Johnson, and dj2 Entertainment, the company that also participated in the Sonic movies.

A classic game returns to the spotlight

Released in 1991 for the Mega Drive, Streets of Rage became one of Sega's most popular beat 'em up series. The franchise returned in 2020 with Streets of Rage 4 and will also receive a new game, Streets of Rage: Revolution, announced by the Japanese company.

Now, the film project is moving forward after years of rumors about an adaptation. Keep following AnimeNews for more news about movies based on games and anime.
