The company N LITE revealed this Wednesday (25) through a post on Instagram , that it is producing an animated film entitled “Chiure: Child of the Sea” . The work is a partnership with the South African studio LUCAN .
The production is being developed by N LITE at their studios in Japan, and the first visual of the work has been released; check it out:

The company said its mission is to expand the production of Black and Indigenous stories in collaboration with global creators, producing traditional 2D animation and expanding into series and films.

Based on Mozambican, the film will follow the journey of Chiure, a young woman who protects her coastal community from threats after awakening a sleeping water god.
The screenplay is written by Vanessa dos Santos, who also shares story credits with Clayton Koski and Christiano Terry, the latter also responsible for art direction. Tom Lintern works as a watercolor artist.
A tribute to the 50th anniversary of Mozambique's independence
The announcement of the film coincides with the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Mozambique's Independence , commemorated on June 25th . AN LITE confirmed that Chiure will enter production after MFINDA , another project from the studio.
N LITE and its projects in Afro-Anime (AFRIME)
Under the leadership of Christiano Terry, founder of N LITE, the company is investing in the production of "afro-anime" (or AFRIME). The film MFINDA features Shin Koyamada (of "The Last Samurai") and Shigeru Igari (former CEO of Atlus) on the production team.
The project is a partnership with JuVee Productions, the company of actress Viola Davis and her husband Julius Tennon. The production brings together names such as:
- Masao Maruyama, producer of Tokyo Godfathers and In This Corner of the World, is producing;
- Gisaburō Sugii, director of Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie , is directing;
- Arthell Isom, co-founder of the D'Art Shtajio, as co-director;
- Donald H. Hewittwrote the screenplay for the English version of Spirited Away .
In addition, N LITE is developing other animated projects in partnership with the GONZO and award-winning director Peter Ramsey (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), including the noir thriller "Ripper" and the science fiction series "Hotaru".
