A fan discovered a very rare, still-sealed copy of Pokémon Blue in his closet , with a printing error on the back cover. The find, forgotten for 17 years, could be worth thousands of dollars in the collector's market.

Released in Japan in 1996 as Pocket Monsters Blue, the game arrived in the West in September 1998 along with Pokémon Red. At the time, few noticed that some of the early English print runs contained a curious error: the Pokémon Blue mentioned "Pokémon Red" on the back. This flaw became known among collectors as the Red Text.

The person responsible for the discovery was Reddit user SausageNPeppers. He recounted that, as a child, he received two copies of Red and two of Blue as Christmas presents. While the Red games were opened and played, one of the Blue copies ended up forgotten in a cupboard, where it remained sealed for almost two decades.

When sharing photos on social media, fans noticed that it was indeed the version with the printing error, making the item even more coveted.

Value in the collectors' market

Currently, copies of Pokémon Blue with Red Text sell for hundreds of dollars, even used ones. On eBay, there are copies listed for around US$599 in only "acceptable" condition. A sealed version with a high conservation rating can reach exorbitant prices: a copy with WATA 9.6 certification is advertised for US$126,000.

The owner of the found copy did not confirm whether he intends to sell the game, but revealed that he plans to send it for official evaluation. Therefore, even a lower score would guarantee a significant value in the Pokémon rarities market.
