Ulisses Bezerra finds it strange what they did to Shun of Andromeda!

Rafael Shinzo
My name is Rafael Alves, known as Shinzo. I created the AnimeNew website in 2009 to offer news about anime, manga, and games directly from Japan.

Ulisses Bezerra, the classic voice actor we know from the character Shun of Andromeda, gave an interview to the Universo Online where he shared his opinion on the choice made by the series' screenwriter, Eugene Son.

In the words of voice actor Ulisses Bezerra: “It’s like making a ‘Wonder Man’ or putting a woman among the Three Musketeers. To me, it’s strange. I don’t think having a female presence changes the story. You can value women in other aspects. I would even ‘change’ Seiya.

Saint Seiya: Shun will be a woman in the Netflix anime

Ulisses also mentioned Shun's androgynous features and the homosexual connotations made by older fans of the franchise. “I've met gay fans who adored him. There isn't a scene that shows he is [gay]. It's the older fans who do that. The younger generation sees that Shun gave his life for his friend,” citing the famous scene in the House of Libra where Shun lies on top of Hyoga to warm him up.

The new adaptation arrives on Netflix in the summer of 2019. The series will be animated by Toei Animation, directed by Yoshiharu Ashino (D.Gray-man Hallow, Tweeny Witches, Cross Ange, First Squad), with character designs by Terumi Nishi (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) and armor designs by Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai). The scripts will be written by Eugene Son (Avengers Assemble, Ben 10, Ultimate Spider-Man).

The series is characterized as a 12-episode, 30-minute CG remake covering the Galactic War arc Silver Knights.
