Kadokawa has confirmed that the light novel Within the Villainess ( Akuyaku Reijo no Naka no Hito ), written by Makiburo and illustrated by Mai Murasaki, will receive an anime adaptation in the form of a TV series. The announcement came with a promotional video, visual, and main staff.

Previously, the publisher Ichijinsha had already revealed, in June of last year, that the animated project was in development. To celebrate the official confirmation, artists Mai Murasaki and Nazuna Shiraume also released commemorative illustrations of the work.

The production brings together well-known names from the industry

The anime will be directed by Yoshihisa Iida, known for his work as an episode director on Princess Connect! Re:Dive and Absolute Duo . Production will take place at studio ROLL2. Hiroyuki Yoshino, screenwriter for World Trigger and Macross Frontier , will supervise and write the series' scripts.

Reiko Nagasawa, who worked on character design for Frieren: Beyond Journey's End , will handle cast design. The soundtrack will be composed by Shuji Katayama, composer of series such as Overlord and Saga of Tanya the Evil . Overall production of the project is handled by Infinite.

The story blends reincarnation and revenge

The plot follows Emi, an otome game fan who dies in an accident and is reincarnated in the body of Remilia, the villain of a game she knew well. Admiring the character, Emi decides to change Remilia's tragic fate within the story. However, the protagonist discovers that the game's heroine, known as Star Maiden, also harbors the soul of another reincarnated person. This rival begins to manipulate events and turns everyone against Remilia, including the prince who was her fiancé.

The work began as a web novel on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website in 2020. Later, it gained volumes published by Ichijinsha and a manga adaptation illustrated by Nazuna Shiraume on the pixiv Comic service. In total, the franchise has surpassed 4 million copies in circulation.

Finally, while the anime's premiere is scheduled for 2027, fans can follow other news from the anime and updates on new seasons at AnimeNews.
