Would you like to be a tanuki? gets an anime adaptation

Japanese publisher Ichijinsha confirmed on Wednesday that the manga Would you like to be a tanuki? (Omae, Tanuki ni Narane–ka?) will receive a anime . The announcement came with a teaser visual and a first promotional video for the series.

The anime will be directed by Jun Kamiya, known for his work on Kingdom, Hikaru no Go , and Let's Make a Mug Too, and produced by Nippon Animation. Masaki Wachi will supervise the scripts, while Cocoro Takemoto will handle character designs. The soundtrack will be composed by Minako Seki.

The story follows humans transformed into tanuki

The story follows Koganemaru, a mythical creature known as a tanuki, who encounters people facing difficulties in life and makes an unusual proposition: to experience life as a tanuki. This experience leads each character to rediscover feelings and priorities forgotten over time.

began original manga its publication in the digital magazine Comic Pool in April 2021. The work already has nine volumes released in Japan, while the tenth will arrive in stores on May 25, 2026.
