Studio Zexcs is producing the anime adaptation of Akane Banashi , which is scheduled to premiere in 2026.

Synopsis
From a young age, Akane nurtured a deep admiration for her father and for the art of rakugo, a Japanese storytelling tradition in which a single performer, called a rakugoka, tells long, elaborate, and often comedic stories. During the performance, the rakugoka portrays multiple characters, differentiating them with variations in voice, subtle head tilts, and hand gestures—all while remaining seated in the same spot.
However, when Akane was still in elementary school, her father, along with the other candidates, was expelled from the renowned Arakawa School after a crucial exam for promotion to the highest rakugo rank, shin'uchi. Six years have passed since then, and Akane, who had been secretly receiving instruction from her father's former master, decides to forge her own path towards becoming a shin'uchi at Arakawa School. Her mission: to restore her father's honor and demonstrate to the world that rakugo is a professional art worthy of respect.
Therefore, Akane-banashi has been published in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump since February 2022. As of June 2025, the series has 17 tankōbon compiling its chapters.
Furthermore, in the United States and Canada, the series was licensed by Viz Media, which handles the official English-language release for the North American audience.
