The remake of the game Steins;Gate has already begun amidst discussion on social media. The first images of the character Kurisu Makise drew attention due to a visual change considered excessive by veteran fans of the franchise.

Much of the criticism revolves around the increased proportions of the character, something many saw as a clear attempt at fanservice. Comparisons with the visual novel and the anime quickly went viral, especially among older communities of the series.

For the most purist fans, Kurisu has always had a more sober and intellectual image within the series. The new design would be misrepresenting elements that helped transform the scientist into one of the most striking faces of the franchise created by MAGES.

Furthermore, some viewers commented that changes of this kind end up diverting the focus from the psychological and scientific narrative of Steins;Gate, a work originally released in 2009 and known for its strong character development.

The community remains divided

On the other hand, some players defended the redesign, arguing that visual updates are common in modern remakes and help bring the game to new audiences. Even so, the negative reaction remains strong in Japanese forums and social networks.

To date, the team responsible for the remake has not officially commented on the criticism surrounding Kurisu's design. Meanwhile, the issue remains among the most discussed topics among visual novel and anime online.
