Square Enix has confirmed that the manga Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You (Super no Ura de Yani Suu Futari) will receive a TV anime adaptation scheduled to premiere in 2026. The announcement was accompanied by a commemorative illustration created by the author himself, Jinushi, celebrating the work's arrival on screen.

Initially launched on X (formerly Twitter) in March 2022, the manga began its official serialization in Big Ganganin August of the same year. Since then, the series has won over readers with its slice-of-life approach and charismatic characters. Currently, the work has six published volumes, while the seventh will arrive on the Japanese market in July.

An adult and lighthearted story

The story follows Sasaki, a middle-aged office worker facing a grueling routine. His favorite moment of the day is during visits to a local supermarket, where he usually meets the friendly employee Yamada. However, after missing one of his shifts, he meets Tayama, a young woman in a motorcycle jacket who takes him to a secret smoking area. From there, an unexpected friendship begins to develop.

Market recognition

The series' success has transcended Japan. The manga has received digital releases in English through platforms such as Manga UP! Global and Comikey, in addition to print editions published by Square Enix Manga & Books. In 2023, the work also achieved eighth place in the prestigious Manga Taisho award, highlighting its popularity among critics and readers.

With the anime's premiere scheduled for 2026, the adaptation is expected to introduce this slice-of-life comedy to an even wider audience. While no new information has been revealed, follow AnimeNews for more news about anime, manga, and upcoming seasons
