2K Games let, in an accidental update on the Steam platform, Mafia's release date : The Old Country . The company will launch the new franchise game on August 8 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | s.
The title marks the first time the Mafia series has been out of the United States. Set in Sicily from the early twentieth century, the game explores the birth of the mafia, before its consolidation as an international criminal organization.
The publisher planned to reveal the release only in May
The information came after a temporary update on the game page, which was aired for a short time. Still, users were able to capture screens with the data, which confirmed the debut date and the forecast of pre-sales.
The official announcement would only take place on May 8, during Pax East, an event that will feature a 2K panel and developer Hangar 13. At the time, the studios must present new images of the game, details about the gameplay and the narrative focus of this edition.
Game returns to the roots of the criminal organization
Revealed during Gamescom 2024, Mafia: The Old Country will be a prelude to previous titles. The story is set decades before the events already shown in the franchise, in a less glamorous historical context, but more faithful to reality.
The narrative unfolds in a Sicily marked by local conflicts and family traditions. To reinforce authenticity, the game will feature voice acting in English and Sicilian, as well as texts and subtitles in Italian, as released by Hangar 13.
Location contemplates Brazilian fans
2K will not voice the game in Portuguese, but it will translate the entire interface, menus and subtitles for Brazilian Portuguese. However, the company guaranteed full support to the language, which facilitates the access of Brazilian players to the plot and the title commands.
The proposal of the new edition is to invest in historical setting, with elements of authenticity that stand out from previous titles. Thus, the idea is to present a narrative of origin, focusing on the formation of alliances and codes of honor that shaped the mafia.
